Meet Thaddeus

I have been an advocate for District VI and the City of Key West for over 30 years as a private practitioner, public servant and resident.  I am the best candidate for your District VI City Commissioner because of my experience, my knowledge and compassion.

My experience as a public servant speaks for itself. I am a former Secretary of the Florida Department of Community affairs, (now known as Florida Commerce). I have been an Assistant City Manager/Community Redevelopment Director in Pensacola, Florida; Planning Director for the City of Key West and Department Head /Assistant County Manager for Growth Management Collier County – Naples Florida.

Governing is not new to me; I am familiar with the issues facing our community as I have implemented solutions for a number of them.  I led the effort to create the transportation alternative fund (TAP), which provides a dedicated source of funding to the affordable housing trust fund; It funded transportation improvements as well as providing dollars for the general fund.  Looking out for our locals, the TAP provided our residents with four (4) free hours of parking  at dedicated parking locations when we visit our downtown area.

My knowledge which I have gained through my many years of public and private practice led to my ability to recognize and lead the zoning changes to provide affordable housing on College Road (Stock Island) and the 3.2 acres at the Truman Waterfront Park, now known as the Lofts of Bahama Village.  I was instrumental in the creation of the Duval loop as a transportation strategy, to reduce the number of cars on our streets, thereby eliminating parking violations in our residential parking areas.

Created the pocket park at the Southernmost end of Duval Street, which as  envisioned would be the most popular area for tourists and their families on their way to visit the Butterfly Museum and the Southern  Most House.

I served on the Monroe County Affordable Housing Task Force in promoting Key West to develop partnerships to advance affordable housing possibilities.

My compassion as a public servant provides me with an understanding of the needs and concerns of our city and neighborhoods.  I have witnessed the changes in our community and am aware of the challenges we will face in the future, trying to preserve the unique character of our city.  Together as One Human Family we can bring a much-needed focus to the concerns we share for the betterment of our community, District VI and the City of Key West.
